What is your approach to therapy?
My therapeutic work is grounded in an approach known as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). ACT is an evidenced-based approach to treating a range of mental health conditions, including anxiety and depression. ACT is considered a multidimensional approach to treatment, in that the psychological processes explored throughout the course of therapy can support improvement for an individual at any point on the spectrum of wellbeing. I also incorporate interventions from meaning-centred therapy, positive psychology, and mindfulness-based approaches to helping.
What types of issues do you help people with?
I primarily work with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, challenging life transitions, and feelings of dissatisfaction or meaninglessness.
When working together, our goal will be to explore the underlying processes – that is patterns of thinking/behaving/relating – that contribute to the problem-area, so that we may focus on addressing the root cause of an issue rather than targeting symptoms for the purpose of a quick fix. In this way, I am committed to always treating the whole person.
I work with adults (18+).
I have worked with postsecondary students for more than five years, and recognize the unique challenges that come with this phase of life. For this reason, I offer a reduced rate to students currently enrolled at a postsecondary institution.
I accept only a limited number of reduced-rate clients. Please inquire about availability prior to booking.
How many sessions do you recommend?
There is no magic number, and every individual is unique in terms of their goals for therapy. Typically, I recommend individuals plan for between 12 – 16 sessions as an initial course of therapy, although this will be discussed in your initial appointment.
In the beginning, I ask clients to commit to weekly or bi-weekly appointments.
One session is 50 minutes.
At this time, clients are required to pay the full fee via the online portal and submit receipts/invoices to their insurance provider for reimbursement (if applicable).
Please note that my services are not covered by OHIP. If you have a insurance, please check that they cover psychotherapy/counselling from a registered psychotherapist (qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.
